Kinver  Church Walk April 2010

Church walk from Arley to Bewdley and Ride Back by Train.    July 10th.

Great fun had by all!!

Thanks to Chris and Ali for organising the walk.

Congratulations

....to Kerry and Christian on their marriage at St Matthew’s on 17th July.

Wishing you God’s blessing on your life together.

July.  C.A.P.  Fest was a benefit event organised by members of St Matthew’s at a local pub, The Barge and Barrel.  Our thanks to Penny and Dave at the barge.

The event went really well including a wide variety of musical acts.  Loads of tinned food was collected in aid of Cap Can’s.  Thanks to Chris, Step, the CAP team and all who supported the event.

BBQ July 11th.  We held our annual summer BBQ in the vicarage garden.  Over a hundred folk attended the event and stacks of burgers were eaten and litres of pop drunk.  Above all lots of great conversation.  Thanks to all who made the afternoon run so smoothly, setting up and putting away.

27th June 2010.  We are really pleased to welcome Angela Bryan to join the team at St Matthew’s as curate.  Angela has just finished her training at St John’s Nottingham and was ordained deacon at Lichfield cathedral on  Sunday 27th June by the Bishop of Lichfield.  We are all looking forward to getting to know Angela more over the coming years and are excited about her ministry in Tipton.  Please pray for Angela as she starts to get to know us all.

Confirmation

March 21st 2010 Confirmation

Congratulations are in order once again following this Sunday’s confirmation service.  Eleven members of the congregation were confirmed by the Bishop of Wolverhampton, The Rt Revd Clive Gregory.  Bishop Clive led an excellent service and in his address, speaking from John chapter 12, he challenged us to extravagant love and devotion of Jesus. Later in the service  Olive, Alan, Ruth, Barbara, Nicola, Hazel, Lee, Stephanie, Christopher, Tara and James were confirmed.  There was a great sense of support from the congregation and applause at the end.  It was great to see the evidence of  the Holy Spirit at work amongst us through this wonderful witness!

Youth Service

June 20th.  The Youth Service. After weeks of preparation we all enjoyed a service put together and led by the young people of St Matthew’s.  The service included worship songs, prayer, readings, drama, a solo vocal, quiz and dance.  It was wonderful to see young people expressing their faith in so many different ways. The recently launched youth band led the congregation in worship . Thanks to all who attended it was a great evening - we thank God for all the gifts he has given to our young people.

March 7th 2010  Baptism

Congratulations to Ruth, Steph, Chris and Alexander on their baptism.  We enjoyed a wonderful service including three full immersion baptisms at St Matthews.  We think they are the first immersion baptisms to have taken place within our church building.  A packed church cheered the candidates as they were baptised in an atmosphere that was electric!

Moving testimonies were given by the candidates about how Jesus has changed their lives and fervent songs of praise were sung by the congregation.  One congregation member said “It was a night to remember”, another said “ I have never seen the church so packed for an evening service.”  At the end of the service the candidates were symbolically “sent out” to continue their Christian journey in the power of the Holy Spirit.  As they walked out during the closing hymn the candidates were, once again, cheered and applauded by the congregation.

Mothers Day Service

Thanks to Revd Pat Davies from the Tipton Methodist Circuit for joining us to celebrate mothers day.  Pat spoke about mother hood and life from the scriptures and reminded us that through Jesus’ death and resurrection we can receive new spiritual birth. At the end of the service. Daffodils were distributed to all the women in the church.

PCC Awayday

On November 13th member of the PCC travelled up to Birmingham city Centre for our PCC away day.  The day was led by Revd George Fisher, Lichfield Diocese Director of Mission, who was fantastic!  We looked back at  the achievements and blessings of the last five years and we began to map out what we believe God is leading us to for the next five years.

It was an exciting and enjoyable day spent at Cathedral Heights.
